In this project, The Art Center of the Haifa Museums - we designed A Mixed-Use Development space that produces an encounter between art and community.
The Art Center - which has undergone a process
Re-characterization from a museum space for children to a center that connects art-community-education.
The emphasis was on creating an enabling space between art exhibition gallery and hosting space.
Instead of the drywall that hidden the windows openings in the tender - we designed a Mashrabiya CNC cut - which lets in natural light into the space and at the same time preserves the exhibits..
The Mashrabiya is an architectural element typical of Islamic architecture - which connects to the location of the Arts Center at the entrance of Wadi Nisnas in Haifa
The design of the Mashrabiya was influenced by the iconic landscape of the port city of Haifa - combined with the movement of the sky from Van Gogh's painting - "Starry Night".
The center focuses on "behind the scenes of the art world" learning and exploration of creative processes - as an integral part of the design of the space, we displayed works from the artists “incubator“ , working in the city in collaboration with local communities.
